Seated lion, Chinese, lion fo iconography, Qing dynasty 1644–1911; soapstone elephantine carved and engraved figurine, 18th–19th century; sculpture/figurine; H 10.5 cm, W 7.5 cm, D 4.0 cm., A small carved figurine sits on a smooth surface against a gradient background. The figurine appears to be made of a muted greenish-beige stone with lighter and darker mottling. It has a rounded head with pronounced facial features and a prominent open mouth, flanked by curled elements that hang down beside the face. The body is compact with a curved back and folded limbs, and textured detailing suggests fur or scales along parts of the form. The surface shows subtle variations in sheen and some pitted or weathered areas. The scene includes colors of gray in the background, white in the foreground surface, and greenish-beige in the figurine.
