Lacquer container with figural scenes including scholars/sages, staffage, boats, defensive walls, landscape motifs, and swastikas. Height 33.7 cm, width 19.5 cm, depth 6.7 cm., A long rectangular wooden box with a hinged lid, shown closed and viewed from the front, finished in a deep red with darker red and black decorative motifs and painted landscape elements, a few areas of brown and golden paint creating mountain and cloud shapes, and two rectangular metal hinge plates with a dull grayish-green patina fastened with round rivets.
