Octagonal, shallow wooden basket with an ivory rim and handle. Inside the basket is a relief scene: in the central field is a palace surrounded by rich vegetation, at the foot of which a wild, spotted animal leopard? tiger? dog? strolls. A trail of stars is carved around this scene. The basket's side panels alternate with images of the same animal and flowers. The spaces between the panels are filled with colorful mosaic tiles. The basket's handle and rim are made of ivory. The basket served both utilitarian and decorative purposes. 19th century, India; container; height 14.0 cm, width 24.0 cm., A wooden octagonal object viewed from one flat side, showing a central recessed panel surrounded by angled wooden segments with visible grain and joins, a group of small round beige feet or pegs attached near the inner edge, a few small metal or plastic fittings at the outer edges, and a small square patch in the center; colors visible include shades of brown in the wood, beige for the pegs, and a gradient gray background transitioning to white at the bottom.
