Cantonese vase, Canton China, 19th century. Ovoid body with thin neck and two side handles; rib with upwardly curled edge and plastically separated foot. Thick grayish porcelain body with white glaze tinged grey. Decoration: two reserved figural court scenes on body and neck set against backgrounds of flowers, birds, butterflies and fruit; painted in overglaze enamels two greens, blue, yellow, red, pink, black, overglaze iron red and gilding. Colored porcelain decorative vessel, height 63 cm, diameter 28 cm., A tall ceramic vase with a flared rim sits against a dark background, decorated all over with intricate floral and figurative panels; the surface shows a palette of green, pink, blue, red, yellow, and white, with touches of black outlining; a group of floral motifs and fruit-like shapes cover much of the body, interspersed with framed scenes depicting human figures and architectural elements; the neck and shoulder are filled with dense foliage and flowers, and the base and rim are bordered by patterned bands featuring geometric and floral designs; overall the object displays a glossy finish and finely detailed brushwork.
