Netsuke in the shape of a sanbasô dancer, Japanese, Edo period 18th century, netsuke figurine depicting a ritual dancer with mask, height 6.3 cm, width 4.0 cm., A carved figurine viewed from an angle showing its side and back, with visible wear and layered paint. The surface shows dark tones including black and deep brown, along with red and maroon areas, patches of gold and yellowish highlights, touches of white, and small green accents. The figure has a rounded head and a prominent curved element that wraps around the back, textured and chipped in places, and there is a visible circular hole on one side. The base is irregular and the paint appears cracked and rubbed, revealing underlying material in a few spots.
