Head of Guanyin Bodhisattva, Polychrome-coated feldspar fragment of a statue with cube-shaped base of dark red marble. Chinese; Guanyin iconography; Qing style 1644–1911. 19th century. Sculpture; height 26.0 cm., A carved stone head with a serene expression sits upright on a rectangular reddish-brown marble base; the head shows weathered textures and patches of darker and lighter stone with visible rough areas on the crown and sides, and the face displays smooth, rounded features with closed eyes and a calm mouth. The base has a polished appearance with veining in darker reds and subtle areas of black and gray. The background is a gradient of dark gray at the top fading to a lighter gray near the bottom. The visible colors include brown, tan, dark gray, black, reddish-brown, and lighter gray.
