Phoenix with a dragon and a pearl on a base; creator, Chinese; Qing dynasty 1644–1911, 18th century; sculpture/figurine in the round, height 36.0 cm, width 17.4 cm; materials: likely carved figurines, depicts phoenix and dragon iconography with a pearl, clouds, and rocks., An intricately carved ornamental object stands on a carved openwork base, the piece showing a group of organic, flowing forms resembling stylized birds and flora. The carving displays a range of warm beige, tan, and brown tones with subtle variations and some darker mottled areas, while the base has deeper brown and grayish-brown coloration with pitted and porous textures. The top portion features layered, lacy carving with curved feather-like and leaf-like elements, rounded protrusions, and hollowed openings that create interplay of light and shadow. The overall silhouette is vertical and tapering, with delicate carved extensions that curl and overlap, and a smooth, lighter lower surface beneath the base where the object meets the flat neutral surface it rests on. The background is a smooth gradient shifting from darker gray at the top to lighter gray toward the bottom.
