Crossguard tsuba, Kaneie, school craftsman author. Japanese, 18th century Edo period, 1603–1868. Oval tsuba with an irregular outline slightly merging into a quatrefoil mokkô, slightly marked edge uchi kaeshi, textured surface. Decorated in low relief with details inlaid with gold and cut into negative openwork. Both sides show waterside reeds and a full moon emerging from behind clouds. At the bottom, one hole udenuki ana. Signed. Materials/subject: metal, moon iconography, landscape motif; function: sword crossguard for katana. Place of origin: Fushimi, Yamashiro, Japan. Dimensions: height 7.7 cm, width 7.6 cm, depth 0.3 cm., A round, flat metal object with a worn, textured surface in shades of brown and dark brown, showing a few areas with faint golden highlights and subtle scratches; it has a narrow rectangular slot near the center and a curved cutout toward one edge, plus a small circular hole toward another edge, all visible against a pale gray background.
