Crossguard tsuba, Kaneie, signed. Quatrefoil shape mokkô gata with a slightly raised edge of the uchi kaeshi/ryôhitsu ana type. Obverse decorated with wild geese flying over a water's edge overgrown with reeds; reverse shows sails of three boats at the top and fishing nets drying on the shore. Gold-inlaid details. Early 19th century Edo period, 1603–1868. Fushimi, Yamashiro, Japan. Tsuba for a tachi sword. Height 10.9 cm; width 10.2 cm; depth 0.45 cm., A roughly square, rounded metal plate with an overall mottled dark brown and gray surface, showing patches of rust and lighter gray wear; the plate has three cutout shapes near its center, including a narrow tapered vertical opening flanked by two rounded openings, and a group of small irregular cutouts near the top. There are a few small shiny gold-colored inlays or highlights scattered near the top and lower left area, and a pair of textured raised ridge shapes toward the bottom that form gentle curves. The edges are slightly uneven and the background behind the openings appears pale gray.
