Censer, Chinese, Qing 1644–1911, 18th century, China; ceremonial/ritual bronze vessel with backdated signatures, decorated with elephants; height 9.7 cm, width 11.3 cm., A small metal vessel with a flared rim and a rounded body sits on a reflective surface; its surface shows patches of worn gilding giving gold flecks over a brown and bronze base color. The vessel has a pair of ornate handles on opposite sides, each handle dark bronze with decorative scrollwork, and it stands on three short, sculpted legs that curve outward and have darker bronze tones. The interior of the vessel appears smoother and more golden than the exterior, and the reflection beneath echoes the shape and colors of the metal object. The background is a smooth, even light gray.
