Crossguard tsuba, Masashige. Round tsuba maru gata with a slightly raised, irregularly outlined edge highlighted by a delicate gold nunome inlay. Decorated on the obverse with a tiger, bamboos and pine, on the reverse with a dragon among sea waves and lightning; details of the decoration inlaid with gold and shakudo patinated copper. Signed. 1806 Edo period, Bunka 3, 8th month. Japan, Echizen. Tsuba; height 7.5 cm, width 7.8 cm, thickness 0.55 cm., A round metal object with a dark brown surface and irregular gold highlights, featuring a central vertical slit flanked by two rounded openings; the outer edge is decorated with carved flowing patterns that suggest waves and organic shapes, with textured raised areas and scattered gold inlay, all set against a smooth light gray background.
