Crossguard tsuba, Masashige. Round tsuba maru gata with a slightly raised, irregularly outlined edge highlighted by a delicate gold nunome inlay. Decorated on the obverse with a tiger, bamboos and pine; on the reverse with a dragon among sea waves and lightning; details inlaid with gold and shakudo patinated copper. Signed. 1806 Edo period, Bunka 3, 8th month. Japan; Echizen. Tsuba; height 7.5 cm, width 7.8 cm, thickness 0.55 cm., A round metal object with a dark brown surface and areas of gold and silver embellishment, featuring an irregular central opening flanked by two rounded openings, with raised decorative motifs of leaves, flowers, and curved organic forms arranged around the perimeter, a few clusters of pointed leaf shapes, several textured floral rosettes, and a group of curved claw-like shapes; the background is a smooth pale gray.
