Crossguard tsuba, Japanese, Edo period 17th century, 1603–1868. Rectangular tsuba with rounded sides nadegaku gata, decorated on both sides with a karakusa floral tendril motif on a blue background, made with the cloisonné enamel technique and stylized after Chinese enamel wares. Unsigned. Tsuba sword crossguard, height 7.4 cm, width 6.8 cm, depth 0.5 cm., A square metal object with rounded corners and a central tapered rectangular hole is shown against a gray background; the front surface is covered in a bright blue enamel with decorative floral motifs in red and orange, green leaves, and dark brown or black outlining, and the metal edges show a brownish patina.
