Bowl, Chinese, Ming dynasty, Jiajing 1522–1566, colored porcelain, decorated with phoenixes fenghuang, dragons long, lotus tendril ornament, and boys. Decoration: inside — figure of a naked boy with a lotus flower among lotus tendrils; outside — feng bird and long dragon among lotus tendrils; framed at top and bottom with a meandering border. Fragment is thick, stoneware-like. Date: ca. 1522–1566. Place of origin: China. Vessel; height 7 cm, diameter 18.3 cm., A shallow round bowl viewed from above with a central figure seated among scrolling floral vines; the decoration features a palette of red-orange, green, and cream with darker brown outlining; the rim has a patterned band and panels of geometric and floral motifs in red-orange and green; several large stylized flowers and leafy tendrils fill the interior surrounding the figure; the background of the bowl is a crackled cream color and the outer edge has a thin darker brown rim; overall colors visible are red-orange, green, cream, brown, and a hint of pale pink on some floral areas.
