Bodhisattva Manjushri, on a base. Chinese, Qing dynasty 1644–1911, 18th century. Wooden sculpture; Bodhisattva holds a rosary in his right hand and a sutra in his left. Wooden stand in the form of a table. Height 14.5 cm; width 8.1 cm; depth 10.3 cm. Cultural context: Chinese/Southeast Asian, Chinese Buddhism., The image shows a small gilded figurine of a seated person with long dark hair and a headband, rendered in gold and darker patinated tones, positioned on a carved dark wooden stand with an ornate openwork apron and curved legs; the background is a smooth gradient of light gray to slightly darker gray.
