Vase on base. Chinese art, Chinese culture. Qing 1644–1911. Casts; vases; bases; antidated signatures; lion iconography. On a high foot. Decorated on the shoulders with six buttons with rosettes. Cast in bronze, inlaid with cold gold, dusting over lacquer. Varnished bronze, full-plastic relief and engraved decoration. Round base, bulging side decorated with openwork plant ornament, on four short legs one missing. 17th/18th century, China. Vessel, vase: height 26 cm, diameter 16.5 cm; base: height 5.3 cm, diameter 13.1 cm., provenance: gift., A large ornamental vase stands against a plain light gray background, showing a rounded body that narrows at the base and flares slightly at the rim. The surface of the vessel is predominantly brown with irregular patches of reflective gold scattered across it, creating a mottled pattern. Two ornate handles rise from the shoulders on opposite sides, each formed into a sculptural animal head and curling, sinuous limbs that attach to the neck, rendered in darker brown tones with the same gold highlights. A raised horizontal band encircles the upper body, decorated with small rounded boss-like elements in matching brown and gold. The base has a stepped profile with similar brown coloring and gold patches, and the overall finish appears smooth and polished.
