Vase, Chinese, Qing dynasty, Xianfeng period 1851–1861, 1st half of the 19th century. Cloisonné enamel on metal, height 25.1 cm, diameter 16.5 cm, weight 1.5 kg. The vase is set on a tall, conical foot flaring downwards and terminating in a metal ring, decorated with a lotus tendril. The short, wide neck is topped with a metal ring and below it a border composed of ruyi-heads. The belly and neck are decorated all around with a composition of flowers and plum branches against a red Chinese meander background., A rounded vase with a broad neck and flared base, shown against a plain gray background, covered in a red ground patterned with a subtle maze-like design and decorated with floral motifs and foliage. The surface features a group of stylized flowers in white, pale blue, yellow, and cream with blue centers, and stems and leaves in shades of green and teal accented with fine gold outlines. There is a decorative border near the top with pale green and white scalloped elements and small blue dots, and a matching decorative band at the base with floral scrollwork in white, pale green, blue, and gold. The rim and the foot of the vase have metallic gold bands. Overall colors visible include red, green, blue, yellow, white, teal, pale green, cream, and gold.
