Vase, gift, Chinese, Qing dynasty 1644–1911, cloisonné enamel; subject: lotuses and lotus tendrils as ornament. Vase with a long, wide neck supported on a separate ring-shaped foot, flattened spherical belly densely decorated with multi-colored lotus tendrils surrounding the entire surface. Foot decorated with an ornamental band of small flowers and leaves. Upper edge of the neck at the rim decorated with a border of ruyi-heads. Neck ends with a thick, ungilded metal ring. 2nd half of the 18th century, China. Vessel; height 37.8 cm, diameter 15.5 cm., A tall, bulbous vase with a narrow neck and flared lip decorated all over with intricate floral and foliate patterns in shades of blue, turquoise, green, red, white, yellow, purple, and brown; the background is predominantly teal-blue with swirling dark green vine motifs, and the floral rosettes appear in red, white, yellow, purple, pink, and green with darker outlines; the rim and base edges are brown, and a few small flower motifs in white, red, and blue encircle the lower foot; the overall surface shows a repeating ornamental design with curved tendrils and stylized petals against a neutral gray backdrop.
