Box with lid, Chinese, Qing dynasty, Qianlong period, cloisonné enamel. Large cylindrical, spheroidal box supported on a separate annular foot, with a slightly flattened lid. Surface covered by a plant tendril encircling container and lid, dominated by chrysanthemum flowers and leaves in various stylistic forms, multicolored composition on a turquoise background. Upper edge of the storage section and lower edge of the cover decorated with a border of ruyi-heads in white and red; a blue three-petal pattern completes the decoration. Foot decorated with a band of colorful flowers and leafy twigs. Interior of the box and inner surface of the foot filled with uniform turquoise enamel. Unglazed edges of the storage section, cover, and foot are gilded. 18th century, China. Height 14.5 cm; diameter 34.5 cm., A circular shallow dish with a smooth glossy interior in a bright sky blue tone, showing subtle variations in blue with a few faint darker and lighter patches and small speckled marks; the rim is a thin band in a metallic brass or gold color with a slightly aged patina, and the background behind the dish is a flat medium gray.
