Box with lid, Chinese, Qing dynasty, Qianlong period, cloisonné enamel. Large cylindrical-spheroidal box supported on a separate annular foot, with a slightly flattened lid. Vessel covered by a plant tendril encircling the entire surface container and lid, dominated by chrysanthemum flowers and leaves in various stylistic forms, set against a turquoise background. Upper edge of the storage section and lower edge of the cover decorated with a border of ruyi-heads in white and red; a blue three-petal pattern completes the decoration. Foot decorated with an ornamental band of colorful flowers and leafy twigs. Interior of the box and inner surface of the foot filled with uniform turquoise enamel. Unenamelled edges of the storage section, cover, and foot are gilded. 18th century, China. Height 14.5 cm; diameter 34.5 cm., A rounded, lidded decorative container with a low pedestal base is shown, covered all over in intricate floral and foliate enamel patterns. The dominant color is turquoise blue, with accents of darker blue, white, green, brown, and touches of yellow and red. Bands of metallic gold trim run around the rim and base. The surface is densely patterned with stylized flowers, scrolling vines, and repeating motifs, including rings of white petal-like shapes against brown outlines and clusters of small dark blue blossoms. The pedestal rim features a darker blue background with small flower motifs in white, yellow, green, and red outlined in gold. The overall shape is oval and slightly flattened, with a smooth, glossy enamel finish.
