Travel cutlery set in case; Chinese, Qing dynasty 1644–1911, 19th century. Consists of: a Knife with cloisonné enamel handle and steel blade. b–c Ivory chopsticks, each decorated at the top with an inlaid black lacquer border ornament. d File decorated similarly to the chopsticks. e Case made of cloisonné enamel with bronze fittings engraved at top and bottom; interior lined with wood. Chopsticks and file held by a band decorated with a matching border; a narrow cotton-silk strap with fringes is attached. Case decorated with flowers in two reserves and plant tendrils in the background. Materials: cloisonné enamel, ivory, steel, bronze, lacquer. Function: travel cutlery. Length: 28 cm case. Iconography: plant motifs, swastika., A group of long slender objects arranged vertically on a gray background: a few pale ivory rods with smooth surfaces and darkened tips, one of which has a textured darker section partway down; a decorated cylindrical sheath and a matching scabbard both showing intricate floral and swirling patterns in bright blue and lighter turquoise with accents of red, yellow, white, and gold, the sheath partially open to reveal a metal blade with a worn, mottled gray surface and a rounded tip; and a golden braided cord ending in a tuft of fine golden threads lying beside them.
