Vase, Chinese, Qing dynasty 1644–1911. Cloisonné enamel. 19th century. Vase with a neck; height 33.0 cm, diameter 15.0 cm, weight 1.7 kg. Decoration: floral and plant tendrils on a turquoise background; birds and animals in circular medallions on a plant background; cranes, deer, peonies, lotuses, chrysanthemums, tigers and other zoomorphic motifs; meander and lotus tendril ornaments. Two stylized handles on the sides of the neck., A single ornate vase with a flared rim and a pair of stylized handles, decorated all over with swirling floral and foliate patterns. The dominant color is bright turquoise blue, with accents of gold, deep blue, green, red, white, black, and touches of brown. The neck and body display repeating scrolling vines and stylized flowers, and there are circular medallions on the body containing symmetrical bird and floral motifs rendered in white, red, green, and gold. The rim and base have metallic gold bands and patterned borders, and small areas of dark blue outline are used around decorative elements. The overall surface is glossy and richly detailed, set against a plain neutral background.
