Incense burner in the shape of a leather cistern, 2nd half of the 19th century, Japan, vessel, censer; height 16.3 cm, width 26.5 cm, A dark brown, glossy carved object with a rounded, organic form resembling a group of bulbous shapes fused together sits on a light surface against a neutral gray background; the object shows areas of rich reddish-brown and black patina with some worn, lighter spots and subtle greenish tints, and features smooth contours, pointed protrusions, and a curved handle-like arch on top with an opening, while a few small carved details extend from one side.
