Vase by Namikawa Yasuyuki 1845–1927, ca. 1890–1905 Meiji period, 1868–1912, Kyoto, Japan. Small slender cloisonné enamel vase, height 18.0 cm, diameter 7.8 cm. Body tapers to a ring-shaped silver foot and a short neck with a silver-ringed spout. Ornamental shippo cloisonné border with rosettes in rhomboid fields at the foot and neck. Petal decoration with stylized phoenixes flows down to the shoulders. Belly covered with glossy black enamel bearing six colorful fan-shaped reserves depicting floral and bird motifs executed in the yusen technique with silver wires. Silver plaque mounted in the mirror of the base engraved “Kyoto Namikawa.”, A tall, narrow vase with a glossy black background decorated with a few panel-shaped areas in cream, green, blue, and tan showing floral and bird motifs; the neck and base feature geometric banding in shades of cream, green, yellow, and dark accents, and a decorative frieze in brown, green, and blue wraps just below the neck; the largest cream panel displays hanging purple flowers and green leaves with a small dark-colored bird in flight, while other panels show sprigs of plants and small birds against green, blue, and tan fields; the overall color palette includes black, cream, green, blue, brown, purple, yellow, and touches of dark metallic at the rim and foot.
