Vase by Namikawa Yasuyuki 1845–1927, cloisonné enamel, ca. 1890–1905 Meiji period. Small, slender vase with a body tapering toward the bottom and terminating in a ring-shaped silver foot. The arms merge into a short neck slightly parted at the spout, enclosed by a silver ring. At the foot is an ornamental shippo cloisonné border with rosettes in rhomboid fields; a similar ornament adorns the neck, from which a decoration of petals filled with stylized phoenix images flows down to the shoulders. The belly is covered with shiny black enamel decorated with six colorful reserves in the shape of unfolded fans, depicting various floral and bird motifs rendered with meticulous precision in the yusen technique with silver wires. A silver plaque with an engraved signature mounted in the mirror of the bottom reads “Kyoto Namikawa.” Kyoto, Japan. Height 18.0 cm; diameter 7.8 cm., A tall vase with a glossy black background decorated with a few fan-shaped panels in green, blue, turquoise, cream, brown, and gold; one green panel shows a group of birds in flight and floral motifs in red and green, a blue panel shows a grouping of delicate white and yellow flowers with green stems and a small orange insect, and other panels include stylized floral and geometric patterns in turquoise, cream, brown, and gold; the neck and base feature repeating geometric bands in cream, green, and brown with gold accents, and the overall color palette includes black, green, blue, turquoise, cream, brown, gold, red, orange, and white.
