Vase by Namikawa Yasuyuki 1845–1927, ca. 1890–1905 Meiji period, 1868–1912, Kyoto, Japan. Small slender cloisonné enamel vase, height 18.0 cm, diameter 7.8 cm. Body tapers to a ring-shaped silver foot; short neck slightly parted at the spout enclosed by a silver ring. Ornamental shippo border with rosettes in rhomboid fields at the foot and neck. Petal motifs filled with stylized phoenixes flow down to the shoulders. Belly covered with shiny black enamel decorated with six colorful fan-shaped reserves showing various floral and bird motifs, executed in the yusen technique with silver wires. Silver plaque mounted in the mirror of the base engraved: Kyoto Namikawa., A tall, glossy vase with a rounded body tapering to a narrow foot and neck, primarily black with decorative panels and bands in colors including green, blue, brown, gold, white, red, and turquoise; the neck and foot have a patterned band in cream and gold with dark accents, a floral ring in green and gold sits below the neck, and an ornate scalloped border in gold, blue, red, and brown encircles the shoulder. Several fan-shaped panels decorate the body, one in bright green featuring two flying birds with white and brown plumage above floral motifs, another in aqua-blue with stylized plants and gold ornamental border, and a brown panel with floral sprigs and turquoise ornamental shapes. The overall finish is glossy and reflective, and the interior of the neck appears dark.
