Vase by Gonda Hirosuke 1865–1937, cloisonné enamel, small spherical vase one of a pair on a low ring foot with a round ring spout, both set in silver-plated metal. Decorated with a realistic, colorful motif of red veil fish beneath hanging wisteria leaves and flowers on a light blue background. Bottom bears the enameller's mark: a flaming pearl with the katakana character ko Gonda Hirosuke of Nagoya. Circa 1890–1910 Meiji 23–43, Nagoya, Japan. Vessel; height 9.0 cm, diameter 8.2 cm., A smooth rounded vase with a pale blue background featuring a hanging floral design in shades of white, purple, dark green, and brown, with a few elongated leaf clusters and curved stems; the vase has metallic gold or bronze rims at the top and base and a small section of reddish-orange visible near the lower side.
