Vase by Gonda Hirosuke 1865–1937, enameller. Small spherical cloisonné enamel vase, one of a pair, on a low ring foot and a round ring spout, both set in silver-plated metal. Decorated with realistically depicted colorful red veil fish beneath hanging wisteria leaves and flowers on a light blue background. Bottom bears a flaming-pearl brand with the katakana character yu — Gonda Hirosuke’s maker’s mark. Circa 1890–1910 Meiji period, Nagoya, Japan. Height 9.0 cm; diameter 8.2 cm., A rounded ceramic vase with a pale blue background, featuring a decorative band of hanging floral clusters and leaves in shades of white, pale purple, dark purple, and green near the top, and a pair of stylized fish in shades of pink and red with pale fins along the body; the rim and base have metallic accents in a warm gold tone, and the overall palette includes pale blue, pink, red, purple, green, white, and gold.
