Tray, Namikawa Sôsuke 1847–1910, ca. 1890–1900 Meiji Period, Nagoya, Japan. Rectangular tray with rounded corners, height 1.3 cm, width 23.1 cm, depth 17.2 cm. Cloisonné enamel musen and yusen techniques and shakudo metal edge. Obverse: asymmetrical painterly composition showing a white heron standing on one leg beside a clump of white and blue irises; background transitions from bluish at the bottom to cream with a hint of pink, suggesting a delicate auroral glow. Executed largely in musen wireless enamel with sparse wires retained shosen to define the bird’s beak and legs. Reverse: dense cherry blossom ornament in two shades of brown on a matte dark brown enamel ground, flowers executed in cloisonné with gold wires; central silver-wired seal woven with the signature “Sakigake.”, A rectangular object with rounded corners and a thin dark border shows a soft gradient background from beige at the top to pale gray at the bottom, featuring a white bird with a slender yellowish beak and dark legs standing near a cluster of tall green leaves and stems; nearby are blue and white flowers with bluish-purple markings and a small dark blue bud, and the overall palette includes beige, gray, white, green, blue, purple, yellow, and dark brown.
