Vase, Cloisonné enamel. Vase on a small ring-shaped foot with a short neck ending in a spout widening toward the top. Decoration: stylized plant ornament, alternating dragon and phoenix in six reserves. Japanese dragon motif, hoo phoenix, dragons, plant ornament. Meiji period, ca. 1890–1900. Japan, Kyoto. Vessel. Height 15.0 cm, diameter 8.0 cm., A decorative vase stands against a plain gray background, with a glossy surface reflecting faintly on the base. The vase has a flared rim with a metallic brown edge and a narrow neck patterned in pale cream with blue and gold scrolling motifs. Below the neck, a band of deep reddish-brown with gold floral ornament wraps around the shoulder. The main body features a repeating shield-like panel design on a white ground, each panel containing ornate stylized floral and feathered motifs in shades of blue, red, cream, and brown accented with gold outlines. The lower portion of the vase is a deep navy blue with small decorative gold and cream elements near the base, and the foot has a thin metallic brown rim. Colors visible include gray, metallic brown, pale cream, blue, gold, reddish-brown, navy, red, and brown.
