Vase, gift, repossession Krakow, irises, flowers iconography, Meiji 1868–1912, Japanese art, cloisonné enamel, Japanese culture, ovoid vase one of a pair, slender, on a low ring-shaped foot with a narrow neck flaring at the rim. Foot and mouth framed with sheet metal. Decorated with a motif of a blooming iris bush, rendered naturalistically with varied color tones. Executed using the yusen technique, motif set against a uniform sea-green background. Around the foot and rim are narrow, colorful borders also made with yusen, composed of small triangular forms called cicada wings. Ca. 1900 Meiji Period, Nagoya, Japan. Vessel; height 25 cm, width 9.7 cm, depth 8.8 cm., A tall, slender vase with a smooth teal surface and a narrow flared neck topped by a dark rim, decorated with a painted floral motif showing a group of purple flowers with pale purple and darker purple petals and green buds and long green leaves, with additional decorative bands in red, white, blue, and gold near the base, all set against a neutral gray background.
