Vase, repossession Krakow, irises, flowers iconography, Meiji 1868–1912, Japanese art, cloisonné enamel, Japanese culture, Ovoid vase one of a pair, slender, on a low ring-shaped foot and with a narrow neck, flaring at the rim. The foot and mouth are framed with sheet metal. Decorated with a motif of a blooming iris bush, captured with naturalistic fidelity and attention to a variety of color tones. Executed using the yusen technique, the motif is placed against a uniform sea-green background. Around the foot and the rim there are narrow, colorful borders, also made using the yusen technique, composed of small triangular forms called cicada wings. ca. 1900 Meiji Period, 1868–1912, Nagoya, Japan. Vessel; height 25 cm, width 9.7 cm, depth 8.8 cm., A tall vase with a narrow neck and flared rim sits against a neutral background, its main body a teal color with a glossy finish, decorated with painted floral motifs showing a group of iris flowers in shades of purple and white with yellow accents and green leaves; the rim appears metallic with a darker bronze tone inside and a thin decorative band below it, and the base has a red band with a repeating scalloped pattern in pale blue and white, the vase casting a subtle reflection on the surface beneath it.
