Vase, ovoid one of a pair, slender, on a low ring-shaped foot with a narrow neck flaring at the rim; foot and mouth framed with sheet metal. Decorated with a motif of a blooming iris bush, rendered with naturalistic fidelity and varied color tones, executed using the yusen cloisonné enamel technique against a uniform sea-green background. Around the foot and rim are narrow, colorful yusen borders composed of small triangular forms called cicada wings. Meiji period, ca. 1900., Nagoya, Japan. Vessel; height 25 cm, width 9.7 cm, depth 8.8 cm., A tall, slender vase with a narrow neck and flared rim, finished in a deep teal color and decorated with floral motifs; a group of irises in shades of purple and white with yellow accents and green stems and leaves rise from the base, the petals showing fine linear detailing in lighter and darker tones; the rim and foot have thin decorative bands in brown, red, blue, and white; the background is a smooth gray.
