Vase, ovoid one of a pair, slender, on a low ring-shaped foot and a narrow neck flaring at the rim; foot and mouth framed with sheet metal. Decorated with a motif of a blooming iris bush, rendered naturalistically with a variety of color tones, executed using the yusen cloisonné enamel technique against a uniform sea-green background. Narrow, colorful borders around the foot and rim, also in yusen, composed of small triangular forms called cicada wings. Japanese, Meiji period ca. 1900, Nagoya. Vessel; height 25 cm, width 9.7 cm, depth 8.8 cm., A top-down view of a rounded square vase with a central circular opening showing an aged metallic interior and a deep dark void, the exterior surface in teal with small visible speckles and a few decorative floral motifs in purple and pale yellow along one side, set against a uniform gray background.
