The painted flowers include clusters of red-orange blossoms with yellow centers, pale pink and white blooms, and long, slender green leaves, along with a larger pale lilac chrysanthemum-like flower. A small bird with white, pale blue, and light yellow feathers and a darker head is depicted in flight near the neck. The vase has a thin reddish-gold band around the rim and a matching band at the base, and its surface reflects light, creating highlights on the glossy black finish.
