Vase by Hiratsuka Mohei 1836-?, ca. 1880–1890 Meiji period, 1868–1912, Japan. A slender ovoid, double-walled bottle on a very low ring foot with a narrow neck flaring at the spout. The outer wall is openwork, composed of densely arranged, colorfully enamelled cloisonné wisteria flowers and leaves filling the vessel's body. Flowers are rendered naturalistically in shades of lilac and blue using multiple enamel tones; leaves use several green tones. The lower body has a strip of exposed silver around the foot engraved with a stylized wave motif. The arms of the vessel are also solid silver, with a strip of stylized clouds above the floral ornament in a Far Eastern manner. The neck is enclosed by a rosette whose petals are decorated with a multicolored miniature stylized plant ornament including chrysanthemum half-rosettes, leafy forms, and volutes. Mark on the bottom: oval convex plaque with the artist's name: Hiratsuka. Vessel; height 19.1 cm, diameter 7.2 cm., A top-down view of a round metal object with a central circular opening surrounded by a decorative star-shaped metal ring, the surface showing patina and wear in shades of gray and muted silver, with hints of darker gray and brown inside the opening and along worn areas, and small touches of green and purple around the outer decorative rim, all set against a flat light gray background.
