Vase by Hiratsuka Mohei 1836-?, ca. 1880–1890 Meiji period, Japan. Slender ovoid, double-walled bottle on a very low ring foot with a narrow neck flaring at the spout. The outer wall is openwork composed of densely arranged, colorfully enamelled cloisonné wisteria flowers and leaves covering the vessel body. Flowers are rendered naturalistically in shades of lilac and blue using multiple enamel tones; leaves use several green tones. Lower body has a strip of silver around the foot engraved with a stylized wave motif. The arms of the vessel are solid silver with a strip of stylized clouds above the floral ornament. The neck is enclosed by a rosette with petals decorated with a multicolored miniature stylized plant ornament including chrysanthemum half-rosettes, leafy forms, and volutes. Mark on the bottom: oval convex plaque with the artist's name: Hiratsuka. Vessel; height 19.1 cm, diameter 7.2 cm., A tall, narrow vase with a rounded shoulder and flared neck covered in raised floral decoration, showing cascading clusters of small flowers and layered leaves in shades of purple, lavender, pale blue, and green set against a dark metallic background with silver and gunmetal highlights, the neck and base featuring swirling embossed patterns in similar metallic tones, and the vase standing on a reflective surface that mirrors its colors.
