Vase, Tomiki, Shôbei fl. ca. 19th/20th century, chidori plovers, reeds, waves; cloisonné enamel; Meiji period 1868–1912, Japan; decorative vessel vase; signature: Tomiki engraved on the bottom in a vase-shaped cartouche — 3 katakana characters: Tomiki Tomiki Sobei; height 12.2 cm, width 5.6 cm, depth 5.6 cm., A tall, narrow vase with a rounded body and a short flared neck stands against a light gray background, its surface showing a textured, speckled blue that ranges from pale to medium tones. Near the lower portion the blue deepens into a richer shade around a painted scene that includes a light gray rock-like shape and a group of thin, angular green plant forms. The vase has a thin dark rim at the top and a matching dark band at the small foot, and the base and lower area reflect faintly on the smooth surface below.
