Vase in the shape of a sake bottle, on a stem; short, narrow neck. 19th/20th century Meiji period. Japan, Kyoto. Vessel. Height 11.7 cm; diameter 6.5 cm., A cylindrical vase with a flared neck and a round foot, predominantly brown with marbled lighter brown patches, decorated around its midsection with a detailed painted scene showing a group of women wearing patterned kimonos in shades of green, gold, beige, and blue, standing on a wooden veranda with screens and plants behind them; the painted band is bordered above and below by narrow decorative gold bands and below that a painted area with green leaves and purple flowers; the background is a smooth light gray.
