A slender miniature silver vase by Nogawa, ca. 1890–1900 Meiji period, 1868–1912, Kyoto, Japan. Belly slightly widening toward the top with narrow straight arms, no neck, spout formed as a flat ring; round, slightly recessed bottom with an engraved brand. Sparse decoration: a naturalistically treated wisteria vine on the upper belly with a sumptuous hanging flower cluster nearly reaching the base. Made using masterful combination of various metals and alloys, employing gilding and black shakudo patina so the silver vessel appears colorful, the darker toned motif enhancing naturalistic yet decorative depiction. Height 15.7 cm; width 5.3 cm., A tall, narrow vase with a smooth, slightly tapered cylindrical shape in mottled brown and golden tones stands against a plain light gray background; a few small dark decorative elements resembling butterflies and leaves are attached to its surface, and the vase has a subtle glossy finish with variations of darker and lighter brown throughout.
