Bell on a stand in the shape of a paifang gate. Chinese; Qing 1644–1911. Bronze zhong-type bell 18th century, missing the upper part of the shaft used for hanging the part above the ring, decorated with an archaized pattern resembling a taotie mask. Wooden stand, gilded, in the shape of a paifang gate with a mount for hanging the bell; after conservation the stand consists of three elements 19th century. Subjects/attributes: bells, bronzes, taotie iconography, gates, musical percussion idiophone. Dimensions: stand height 64.5 cm; bell height 34 cm., A greenish bronze bell with a textured patina and raised geometric relief patterns hangs from a reddish-brown wooden frame carved with ornate roof-like curves and tiled details; the frame has a polished finish with carved brackets and curved base elements, and the background is a neutral light gray.
