You-type vessel with a lid on a stand. Chinese; Qing dynasty, Qianlong period 1736–1795. Cloisonné cellular enamel ritual/ceremonial you vessel originally used for storing alcoholic beverages form originates in the Shang Dynasty. Elaborate, precise, multi-colored cloisonné decoration on body and lid depicting a taotie mask and stylized bird images, motifs borrowed from archaic bronzes. Plastic insets decorate the sides; animal head terminals flank the movable handle. Stand: mattly polished elongated rosewood base decorated with bas-relief bats and spiral ornament. Dimensions — vessel: H 39.0 cm, W 24.0 cm, D 19.0 cm, weight 5.6 kg; stand: H 55.0 cm, W 30.0 cm, D 18.0 cm, weight 1.8 kg., A carved wooden stand with a dark reddish-brown finish, consisting of an ornate circular base with a raised carved platform and a decorative apron supported by short curved legs, and two tall sinuous vertical posts rising from opposite sides that are joined by a carved arched top; the base and platform feature dense relief carving of swirling and floral motifs, the vertical posts have braided rope-like carving punctuated by disc-shaped carved medallions, and the arched top carries additional carved ornamentation; the object sits on a reflective pale gray surface against a plain light gray background.
