The rim is decorated with a Chinese meander motif and leiwen thunder pattern; design also includes lemons. Chinese, Ming dynasty 1368–1644, 17th century. Material: Chinese lacquer implied. Function: container. Dimensions: height 4.4 cm; width 24.0 cm; depth 10.7 cm., The image shows a rectangular carved object with a pair of stacked sections, both displaying a repeating geometric maze-like pattern in low relief. The object is primarily red with areas of darker red and brownish tones, and there are subtle hints of yellowish-gold within the carved grooves. The surface shows slight cracks, chips, and worn spots, and the background is a uniform cool gray.
