Storage vessel with lid by Zôshuntei Sanpo signature painted underglaze with cobalt: Zoshuntei Sampo zo, c. 1842–1878, Arita, Japan. Pear-shaped blue-and-white porcelain storage pot with flat cylindrical lid. Decorated in Chinese-style landscape composition: an old man resting alone under a pine on a rocky cliff overlooking a broad body of water, with mountainous scenery, a waterfall, lofty peaks, and distant boat sails. Lower base bears a wide ornamental band of three vertical and two crossed lines; neck and lower edge of lid have diagonal-line bands forming triangular motifs. Lid decorated with a rock motif. Decoration modeled on Southern School Chinese painting and the Japanese bunjinga nanga movement; free-form painting with precise, masterful lines, using cobalt in bright, pure tones. Height 21.8 cm; diameter 15.3 cm., A ceramic object with a smooth white surface featuring blue painted designs, showing a landscape of stylized mountains and slopes in varying shades of blue, with delicate blue brushstrokes suggesting plants and small details, and a patterned blue border along the bottom with diagonal hatch-like motifs; the rim appears slightly darker blue and there are subtle shadows and light reflections on the glossy surface.
