Decorated in cobalt in several tones with a Chinese-style landscape: an old man resting under a pine on a rocky cliff overlooking a broad body of water, with mountainous scenery, a waterfall, lofty peaks, and distant sails. Lower base has a wide ornamental band of three vertical and two crossed lines; neck and lower edge of lid have diagonal-line bands forming triangular motifs; lid decorated with a rock motif. Decoration modeled on Southern School Chinese painting that influenced Japanese bunjinga/nanga; free-form painting with precise, masterful lines indicating a highly skilled decorator. Height 21.8 cm; diameter 15.3 cm., A top-down view of a round ceramic vessel with a wide opening, showing a glossy interior that appears dark gray, a rim with exposed unglazed beige clay, and an exterior decorated with blue brushwork on a white background featuring a patterned band and flowing floral or abstract motifs against a pale gray backdrop.
