Vase with cover, unknown ceramist, Japanese, Edo period Genroku–Kyoho, ca. 1690–1730, Arita; porcelain, blue-and-white; decorated with phoenixes, hares/rabbits, peonies, chrysanthemums, lotuses — kachoga flowers-and-birds motif; one of a set of four; vessel height 58.0 cm, diameter 35.5 cm., A lidded ceramic vase displayed against a plain gray background, predominantly white with intricate blue painted decoration covering its surface; the lid has a pointed finial with blue floral and scroll motifs, the rounded shoulder and body feature detailed blue floral patterns, leafy stems, and decorative panels, with additional scrolling and geometric banding near the base and rim; the overall color palette is blue and white with subtle reflections on the glazed surface.
