Lacquered box decorated with figurative scenes of sages and scholars with servants in landscape settings pine trees, rocks, rosette and geometric ornament, kikko pattern. Vessel; height 11.0 cm, width 4.8 cm., A carved circular plaque with a scalloped edge, predominantly deep red, set against a neutral gray background; the plaque shows a high-relief scene with two robed human figures standing amid stylized natural elements including a large textured tree, layered rock formations, and patterned ground; intricate carved foliage and fan-shaped leaves surround the figures, and the background includes a woven or crosshatched surface texture; the carving displays varied surface depths and fine linear details throughout, all rendered in shades of red with the surrounding backdrop in gray.
