Materials/technique: metalwork. Date: 19th century late Edo–Meiji period, 1603–1912. Place of origin: Japan. Dimensions: height 2.3 cm, width 3.2 cm, depth 1.5 cm., A small oval metallic object with a gold-toned rim sits centered against a smooth gray background; the interior of the oval is darker with mottled shades of brown, black, and hints of red, and the gold edge shows slight wear and variations in tone.
