Japanese; 19th century late Edo–Meiji period. Materials/technique: metal kashira for katana. Dimensions: height 0.9 cm; width 3.7 cm; depth 2.0 cm., An oval metallic object sits on a gray surface, showing a dark brown interior and a darker outer band with a small decorative motif on one side featuring a few raised elements in gold and brass tones resembling floral or organic shapes; the object casts a subtle reflection on the surface and the overall colors visible are gray, dark brown, gold, and brass.
