Vase with cover, Imari porcelain, 18th century Edo period, Japan. Decoration: flowers, tree, bamboos, peonies, karashishi mythical lion-dog. Vessel, height 25.5 cm, diameter 16 cm., A lidded porcelain jar with a glossy finish sits against a pale grey background; the jar is predominantly painted in shades of deep blue and red with white areas, and a small white sculpted figure tops the lid. The curved body and flared neck of the jar are covered in swirling blue patterns and red floral motifs, with several white cartouche-shaped panels that contain more red floral decorations and touches of green. The lid echoes the blue and red design with cloud-like shapes, and the white sculpted finial has an uneven, slightly rough texture. The base of the jar is white and reflects faintly on the glossy surface beneath it.
